Thank you for joining me on this monthly trip through the archives of my studio.
Summer snuck up behind us while we were all grousing about the long, moody, gray days of June. Now the heat is here, we are the frogs in the frying pan, the heat oozing into the day, warming to a crescendo by late afternoon, until we’ve melted like a crayon left too long on hot pavement.
I’m offering up a cool summer shoreline image this month, something to lower the temperature if you sit and gaze long enough. Sentinel 2 was painted for the exhibit Tidal Change at Sullivan Goss, Santa Barbara, in 2007. I know that I say this often, but truly, this is one of my favorite paintings. When not in a gallery this painting resides in my home where I can admire it daily.
Despite its size, five feet square, this painting has a good pedigree. After its debut in Santa Barbara, Sentinel 2 traveled south for the Made in California exhibit at Brea Gallery in 2009, won an award at the California State Fair in Sacramento in 2014, and is now enjoying a second turn on the wall at Sullivan Goss in The Art of Collecting.
Five days remain to view this painting in its finery, lit beautifully on the gallery wall and waiting to welcome you at the door. It is the gateway to the main gallery where my solo exhibit The Whole is Greater awaits with more serene shorelines to peruse and slices of the California experience to ponder.
The Art of Collecting at Sullivan Goss is on view until July 27, 2026 and The Whole is Greater remains through August 24th with a second reception on First Thursday, August 6th from 5-8pm. Hope to see you around the gallery.
